“For the LORD, that was a night of intent watching, to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For all Israelites in every generation, this same night is a time of intent watching to honor the LORD.”

(Read Exodus 12)

As Christians we can easily lose sight of God’s role in accomplishing His plan. Sometimes we try to follow His word as best we can, but we become discouraged when we feel like we do not see His hand moving to meet us in our efforts. But Exodus 12:42 tells us a very different story. The God described in verse 42 is an active and attentive God, one who is clearly deeply invested in the plight of His people. The Israelites were not saved because they completed all the necessary steps required to be saved. They were saved because God “intently watched” over the Israelites the entire night.

Even in the moments where God seems absent, know that He is actively tuned into His plan to see it through. Be encouraged that if we are in line with God’s heart, we are not alone and we are not solely responsible to bring His plan to pass. He is with us. We should move forward with the confidence of knowing that God has and will continue to keep attentive watch over us as we live out His will for us. God’s heart IS invested in his people and God has never been absent – not on the night of the first Passover, not now.

God, thank You that You are present and active in our lives. Help us to be aware of Your presence. Help us to boldly move forward in pursuing Your will for our lives and the lives of those around us. As we do this, we pray that we will draw closer to You and Your heart. In Your name we pray, Amen.
