SCRIPTURE
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. EXODUS 20:8 NIV

(Read Exodus 20)

OBSERVE
The Sabbath is important because it is important to God. He calls it Holy. God created the universe in six days and then He rested.  If it's important enough for God to rest, then I should take time to rest. This is a commandment for my benefit! The Israelites were enslaved for 400 years. They knew how to work. Now they needed to learn how to rest. Rest is a spiritual discipline that we should practice. True rest is not only physical, but mental, emotional and spiritual. If I don't take time to recharge by spending more time in God's presence, how can I re-present Him in my daily life? Graham Cooke states: "Rest is a weapon". We need rest to develop peace in our lives.

APPLICATION
Choose a day each week that you can set aside time for rest.  Spend time thinking about God and more time thanking Him. God is so kind. Stopping and taking time to recognize how He has blessed you will strengthen your spirit. This is worship.  Take time to enjoy doing what refuels you.  Take time to be alone, or spend time with friends. Laugh, take a walk, a nap, read, or just sit with a cup of coffee and rest.  While you rest, let your thoughts dwell on how much God loves you. Breathe, just breathe. Be amazed by our Creator. Google images of beautiful scenery from our Universe, Yosemite, or Banff National Park. You will be amazed by the beauty God created in those six days before He rested!

PRAYER
Lord, I choose to take a Sabbath rest.  Help me to prioritize time each week to spend more time with You. I LONG to spend time with You God. While I rest, fill me with Your Spirit so that I can share Your kindness, goodness, gentleness and peace with others.
