Read John 10:22-30
My own sheep will hear My voice and I know each one, and they will follow me. John 10:27
It amazes me that the Jewish leaders watched miracles happen before their eyes and still didn't believe Jesus was the Son of God. Their hearts were hard. They had become so religious and blind to the truth. Jesus even tells them that they are not His sheep because His own sheep hear His voice and have eternal life. His sheep will not get lost and no one has the power to snatch us from Him!! What an amazing promise!!
Shepherds have a unique relationship with their sheep. Sheep can be in a pen mixed with another shepherd’s sheep, but when their shepherd calls them they know his voice. They have an intimate relationship with their shepherd. They know he loves and cares for them.
The Psalmist David was a shepherd. Being a shepherd prepared him for his kingship. But more important he knew how to have that same relationship with God and that allowed him to hear God’s voice clearly. Throughout the Psalms David journals His intimate communion with God. David heard and knew God’s voice clearly.
Jesus, thank You that You love us. Soften those places in our hearts that keep us from hearing Your voice clearly. Draw us close to Your heart and Your presence.
