“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— John 14:15-16 NKJV
I can just imagine this being a confusing and emotional time for the disciples. Their teacher, leader and friend, who they spent their days with, was not going to be on this earth anymore. Its not easy to lose a person that you shared your life with and have learned from. Jesus assures them that He will send a Helper who will be with them forever. Then He explains that if they keep His commandments, they will show that they love Him.
After reading this scripture, God showed me that many times in my life, when there are challenges and trials to walk through, I often go immediately to the Lord, and cry out for Him to show me the direction, or answer, or show Himself to me in the situation. I stand on the last portion of John 14:21 and wait for God to speak to me. Putting it all into context though, the first part of John 14:21 says that if I know and keep His commandments; if I treasure His Word and spend time in it and with Him, and if I obey Him, I am showing Him love. I will be loved by the Father, and Jesus will love me and will then manifest Himself to me. One definition of manifest is “to cause to shine.”
Father, thank You for sending Your Spirit to be with us always. Help us in the challenges and craziness of life, to put things in order, and to make time for You and reading Your Word, making it an essential part of us. Help us to live a life of obedience to You, showing our love for You. And open our eyes as You reveal Yourself and Your love to us, that we would be able to share Your love to others. Amen.
