Read 1 Samuel 3:1-11 NLT

The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God. Suddenly the Lord called out, “Samuel!”
“Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?” 1 Samuel 3:3-4 NLT

Observation
Samuel was in the temple by the candlestick which represents the Holy Spirit and he was sleeping by the Ark of the Covenant which represented God’s presence.  Samuel positioned himself to hear God. I wonder how many times we position ourselves in the wrong places and we have cut out God’s voice in our lives. Samuel responds to God in verse 10 “SPEAK for your servant is listening.”  I wonder what it would be like for us during these 21 days of prayer and fasting if we position ourselves to decrease all the other voices that are grabbing for our attention and hear the only voice that matters? When we position ourselves in the right places and say to God “Speak for your servant is listening,” God SPEAKS!

Application
Take time this week and make a plan for yourself to hear God through His word, through prayer and through others. Be specific about the time, place, and what you will do.  Position yourselves to hear God more clearly .

Prayer
Lord, I pray that that all the other voices that are in my life be shut out so I can position myself to hear the only voice that really matters. Speak to me through Your word, speak to me when I am praying, speak to me when I am with others.
