"..He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice...9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
John 10:3b-4, 9-10 NIV
Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees in an analogy they could not understand, so instead of being frustrated with them, He chose to speak in a way they could understand. Jesus calls Himself the shepherd of sheep and also the gate for the sheep to enter into safe pastures. How amazing is it that Jesus leads us (His children), guides us gently with His voice, and is the only way to enter into a place that supplies all our needs. He is our everything! In contrast to the devil, Jesus Christ cares about His sheep and wants us to live life to the fullest.
Sometimes in life I feel pressured and pushed to do things. The voice of the Lord calls me by name and draws me to Himself. Following Jesus leads to green, peaceful pastures. Am I hearing the voice of my Shepherd? If not, what distractions and other voices do I need to rid in my life? Am I spending enough time with my Savior to even know what His voice sounds like? I need to remember what His voice sounds like from previous times He has spoken to me and keep my ears attuned daily to where His voice directs me.
Jesus, thank You so much for being my Protector, Provider, and Savior. Help me to spend time in Your Word and be listening to what You are speaking to me daily. Thank You, that You came to die for me that I may have abundant life in You. Help me to live my life in response to what You've done for me, following closely behind You. In Your name, Jesus, Amen!
