Read Acts 1

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere - in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NLT

Observation
In response to the disciples question as to whether He would now restore the kingdom to Israel Jesus reminds them they are to wait for the promise of the Father. The Promise – you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes upon you - to be His witnesses – EVERYWHERE. Whether in our homes and neighborhoods or far off lands, God knows we need His power to do His work. God’s power, now that’s worth waiting for!

Application
We aren’t all called to be a missionaries in distant lands but we are all called to be witnesses. Often we neglect spending quality time with God and attempt to do His work in our own power. I am reminded of John 15:5 which tells us to abide in Him, because without Him we can do nothing. If as His witnesses we are battling principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places then I sure don’t want to do it on my own power. I need God’s supernatural power, I want God’s supernatural power – and best of all He wants us to have it. I don’t remember where but I heard this long ago - The secret of walking in the fullness of the Holy Spirit is a moment by moment desire to be filled and a moment by moment trust that God will do it.

Prayer
O God! Just as the early church needed your power we need it today. We cry out for Holy Spirit boldness and power to be your witnesses, to be the church you desire us to be. Whether near or far send us where you want us to go. Your Kingdom come – Your will be done!
