Read Acts 4:23-31
After they prayed, the place where they were gathered was shaken. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking God's Word with confidence.
Acts 4:31 CEB
Here we see Peter and John being persecuted by the Jewish leadership for preaching and healing in the name of Jesus Christ. When they were finally released they joined their brothers and in unison lifted their voices to heaven. They were able to see through spiritual eyes what was happening; how even the prophet David foretold that peoples and rulers would stand against Christ and that God had already planned it to be so. They didn't groan and complain in their physical circumstances, but together they called on the Holy Spirit to give them complete confidence, the ability to heal and perform signs and wonders in Jesus' name; knowing that greater persecution would be coming their way. Verse 31 says that the place was shaken where they were. This could have been a natural shaking that took place but I also think those believers were spiritually shaken so that they would never be the same again. I think God shook any doubt or fear right out those believers and filled them with all the confidence and boldness they needed to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
I am so inspired by this word from the Lord. I experience a minute amount of persecution in my life and an equal amount of boldness in the Lord. This challenges me to keep on growing in the Lord Jesus as I crave His Holy Spirit. I need to be shaken and filled as they were.
Thank you God for your Word. It encourages me and causes me to look at the condition of my heart. Shake my spirit Lord and remove anything that hinders me from proclaiming Christ with complete confidence and boldness. Holy Spirit, fill me Your power to speak life and healing in the authority of Jesus Christ. Amen.
