For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
Colossians 1:13-14 NLT
These two verses are packed full of action verbs that describe just what God and Jesus did because of their desire for relationship with us. We have been rescued, transferred, purchased and forgiven. He didn't just take us from bad to better; He took us from a place where we were dead and trapped in the kingdom of darkness and made us alive again through Christ Jesus. God didn't go through all of that effort so we could just go on living life for ourselves. He did it so He could have a relationship with you and me.
Relationships are a two way street. God values relationship with me so much that He purchased my freedom through the death of Jesus on the cross. Am I equally valuing that relationship with Him? If I am supposed to be modeling my life after Jesus then I need to be more intentional with my relationship with God and with others. Relationships matter to God so they should matter to me.
Lord, give me a deeper understanding of the price You paid for a restored relationship with me. You actively pursued me, so help stir in my spirit the desire to actively seek You. I want to intentionally build that relationship with You and to build relationships with others so that I can point them toward a relationship with You. Thank you for purchasing my freedom and forgiving my sins.
