Read 1 Corinthians 6

“And such were some of you [sinners]. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11

Paul is reminding the church of Corinth that although it wasn’t long ago they were living sinful lives, God doesn’t see them that way any longer. What stands out to me is that God doesn’t only give a fresh start to His people, but it gets even better than that. He actually calls them sanctified (to be set apart for God) and justified (to be
declared righteous). Our sins are not only cleaned up – it’s as though they never existed!

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it’s difficult for me to fully grasp the truth of this verse. If we truly believe that we are clean, set apart for good things and
declared righteous, this will change our everyday actions—especially the way that we approach God. Check out Hebrews 10:22. We can now be “confident that we’re presentable inside and out” as we draw near to Him. I only want to think about myself the way God thinks about me. There is no time or energy for shame or regret of my past. I have been set apart for God and want to be used by Him, even today. Confess what you need to before the Lord, but then be confident that He has made you completely new and even declares you righteous.

God, thank You for giving me a totally fresh start today. Help me to start thinking about myself the way You think about me – as righteous and set apart for You. Help
this truth transform my day and my actions.
