Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. Hebrews 12:14-15 NLT
This scripture shows that having a one-time spiritual experience is not enough. We need to be holy/sanctified/set apart from sin. We have work to do. Living at peace with everyone isn’t easy. Living a holy life isn’t easy. It takes work not to hurt others with our words or actions, or harbor anger and unforgiveness. And we shouldn’t just be worrying about our own lives, God expects us to look out for each other too. Our unresolved offenses or unhealed hurts not only affect us, they turn to bitterness and corrupt others. The encouraging and most important thing is that in doing the work we will see the Lord and receive the grace of God!
I want to see the Lord and I want everyone I know to experience the grace of God; I do not want bitterness to sprout from me and corrupt others. The prescription is to apply the following to my life daily: forgiveness, resistance to sin, repentance, accountability, reaching out to others, and loving others.
Father, I submit all of my relationships to you. Help me to do the work necessary to live in peace with others, and to be diligent to watch and to see when they might need help walking out their salvation. Show me areas that are a cause bitterness to grow in me and help me to live a holy life that draws others to You. Amen
