“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.” Luke 15:8-10 NLT
Palestinian women typically received 10 Silver coins when they got married which had similar sentimental and monetary value as a wedding ring does today. So, if a woman were to lose these coins, she would be extremely distressed and finding it would be a cause for celebration! Jesus, therefore, was helping his disciples understand that a major celebration takes place when a lost soul finds Jesus and transforms in to a useful follower of God.
There is a major celebration when people that are lost find Jesus (see Luke 15:7). As a part of Jesus' church, we all got to celebrate the day when we accepted Him as the forgiver of our past and leader of our future and should desire to share the Good News with everyone that we know.
God, even on the days when things just aren't going my way, send Your Spirit to remind me of the freedom that You not only made available for me but for ALL people! Hallelujah! And bring me courage from heaven to share that joy with those around me, in an incredible effort to depopulate hell, in Jesus' name. Amen!
