Read Ezekiel 36:24-28
A new heart also will I give you and a new Spirit will I put within you and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and I will give you a heart of flesh and I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes and you shall keep my judgments and do them. Ezekiel 36:24-28 KJV
Note how many references to what God will do are in these verses. He says, “I will gather you and bring you,” “I will cleanse you,” “A new heart will I give you,” “I will put my Spirit within you,” and “I will cause you to walk and keep and do my judgements.” His work is truly done and the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth (reality).
The Old Testament Israelites are our example here. God began and performed the work but they suffered many troubles. All the suffering and trouble is to this end: that we may be a habitation for God in the Spirit. In Isaiah 57:15 He says, “I will dwell in the Holy Spirit, with him also that is a contrite and humble spirit.” Acts 14:22 states, “We must through much tribulation enter the kingdom. But why so much trouble? He gave us the same Spirit as Jesus but there were already many devices there.” One brother told me he prayed, "Lord, fill me!" The Lord replied, "You are already full." There was no more room for the Lord. Suffering will work for us to enlarge our heart for God. We have ways of coping with our weaknesses and ways of reacting to offenses or perceived offenses. There are blurred lines to what is soul-ish and what is of the Spirit. Indeed, many devices. The seed of the kingdom is the smallest of all seeds planted within us. May we be those who exercise our senses to discern both good and evil. May our suffering be not in vain, but may we learn the way of the Spirit, the way of the cross.
God, we thank You for Your unspeakable gift. May You grant us the mercy to draw near and to rest in Your presence, and to commune with You deep unto deep. Amen.
