But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 1 John 2:5 NLT
The common theme that I get from when I read this passage of Scripture is talking about how if we know God and love Him, we obey His commands and what His word says. In turn, our obedience to God’s commands and Word cause us to live and love one another as Jesus would. The part that also gets me is that if we don’t love one another or obey His word, how we really don’t know Him and we are actually lying if we say otherwise.
We need to first recognize that God’s word isn’t just some old book. It’s filled with life, power and love. It is a demonstration of God’s great love for us. So when God reveals who He is to us and what He has done for us, we can’t help but love and obey him. We then can’t help but to love on our friends (especially the ones that don’t know Him). We will want to show and tell the kids in our classrooms or people at our workplaces about Jesus and what He did for us out of love.
Dear Lord, help me to know You more and to walk in Your ways. Forgive me for the moments I have come up short of being a living demonstration of who You are and Your love. Change my heart to want to have a stronger relationship with You, so I can become the young man/woman you have called me to be. And not just for me, but so I can be a better witness to those around me. Amen!
